DNCC Mayor Annisul Huq took shelter at the office of Bangladesh Truck and Covered Van Drivers’ Union during the clash on Sunday. Clashes erupted when police charged with batons and lobbed teargas canisters at workers who were trying to obstruct the evictions.
Before leaving the industrial hub on Sunday, the mayor addressed around 1,000 protesters, holding out the assurance of building a ‘better’ truck stand.
The ECNEC meeting at the National Economic Council office at Dhaka’s Sher-e-Bangla Nagar on Tuesday approved the scheme. The minister made the claim while detailing the project titled ‘"Construction and improvement of Roads, Drains and footpaths of Gulshan, Banani and Baridhara diplomatic areas.”
He said on Wednesday he had a meeting with the chief executives of 25 agencies associated with the city corporation. “I emphasised proper steps for the implementation of work plans in accordance with my election manifesto. I hope people of Dhaka will see good results in two years,” he added.
“I will seek the army’s help now. The ministry has already cleared the proposal,” Huq told reporters at the collapse site on Thursday.
“It’s true that people favoured by an incumbent government can do more work than others, even if you and I like it or not,” he says.
He spoke to reporters around 9:30am after casting his vote at the polling station at Banani Bidya Niketon High School and College.
“Foul is a part of every game. But we’ll have to check whether it is a major foul or a minor one,” Huq of Dhaka North City Corporation told a press conference after the civic voting on Tuesday.
