Tributes still pour in for Dhaka North City Corporation Mayor Annisul Huq, who breathed his last at a London hospital around 4.23 pm (London time) Thursday. He was 65. President M Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina expressed deep shock at the death of Huq. In separate messages, the president and the prime minister recalled Annisul Huq's contributions to the development of Dhaka North City Corporation area.

Dhaka North City Corporation’s mayor post declared vacant

The mayor post of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) was declared vacant on Monday four days after its first mayor Annisul Huq passed away. "The mayor post of the DNCC was announced vacant on Sunday (December 3). The gazette notification will be issued on that date," Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Engineer Khandker Mosharraf Hossain told journalists at the Secretariat in Dhaka today, reports BSS.

The body of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Mayor Annisul Huq likely to arrive at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka on Saturday. His body likely to arrive at the airport around 11 am by a flight of Bangladesh Biman Airlines. Then his body will be taken to his house in Dhaka.

In a message of condolence tonight, he expressed profound shock at the death of Annisul, who won the City Election Poll on April 28 in 2015. "The nation has lost an eminent businessman, a successful industrialist and a politician in his death," the President said.

Annisul laid to rest

Dhaka North City Corporation Mayor Annisul Huq was buried at Banani graveyard in the capital this afternoon. He was laid to rest beside the graves of his mother and son around 5:30pm amid hundreds of followers shedding their tears. Earlier, people from all walks of life, including ministers, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and political leaders paid their last tributes to the mayor.

DNCC mayoral post declared vacant

The government has declared the mayoral post of Dhaka North City Corporation vacant after death of its mayor Annisul Huq. The local government ministry today published a gazette in this regard saying that the DNCC mayoral post fell vacant on December 1. According to the electoral law, the Election Commission can hold a by-poll to elect the city’s mayor for the vacant post within 90 days for the rest tenure of the DNCC.
