Foreign diplomats in Dhaka have demanded improvement in “security quality” at the diplomatic zones–Gulshan, Banani and Baridhara.
They made this appeal at a special discussion programme “Life and Business As Usual” arranged by Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) at Gulshan in the city on Wednesday.
The ambassadors, high commissioners, representatives of law-enforcing agency representatives, delegates of top businesses and foreign buyers were the discussants at the programme.
The diplomats have said that a ‘perception of fear’ is prevailing among them after the terror attacks at Gulshan and Sholakia.
That is why, the security quality should be improved, they added.
After the discussion, Mayor Annisul Huq briefed journalists about the conversation, saying the diplomats expressed satisfaction over what we (DNCC, law-enforcers and others) did for their overall security in the last three months.
The Mayor claimed that the diplomats had said that they now feel secure. However, they still have perception of fear and demanded removal of that.
He said, “We shall not keep any stone unturned for ensuring their security.”
To a question, Annisul Huq said that the trade and commerce at Gulshan, Banani and Baridhra were getting back to normal, which deteriorated after the terror attacks.
In response to a question, DMP Commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia assured of improving the quality of security measures.
Former Chief Election Commissioner and President of Gulshan Society ATM Shamsul Huda, former Adviser to the caretaker government Syed Manzur Elahi, State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shahriar Alam and President of FBCCI Abdul Matlub Ahmad, Ambassador of Embassy of Sweden Johan Frisell, British High Commissioner Alison Blake, Australian High Commissioner Julia Niblett and Ambassador of the USA Marcia Bernicat, among others, spoke.
