Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Mayor Annisul Huq said the city dwellers had been enjoying the results of the developmental projects. He made the observation at DNCC new office in Gulshan yesterday.The mayor sat with the chiefs of several utility services including Rajuk, WASA, DMP, RAB, BRTA and BRTC.
The discussion covered 21 issues including traffic congestion, illegal occupation and water logging problem. Moreover, waste management system, removing illegal structures, setting up new bus bays and truck stands, detecting risky buildings, stopping commercial activities at residential areas, Gulshan-Baridhara-Banani Lake project and mosquito swat program were discussed. The meeting decided to form a committee to resolve traffic congestion and footpath occupation problem by one month. Dhaka WASA was directed to restore and recover the city canals. Government-run institutions agreed to provide lands for ‘Secondary Transfer Station’ (STS). Rajuk will cooperate to settle on landfill projects and coordinate shifting three parks in the capital.
The speakers said that the utility service providers had to notify the city corporation at least six months ago before road digging. Later, the corporation would inform the traffic police. Annisul said producing electricity from garbage recycle was a huge project which was not possible for the city corporation alone. The corporation had been considering the implementation of the project, he said urging all to be more aware.
He, replying to another query of the reporter, said, “The corporation has completed a very specific day to day roaster of road and drainage repairing for the next one and a half years.”More than 40 officials of 26 governmental organizations took part in the discussion. Annisul thanked all for their presence and said he would host the next meeting after three months.
