Condolences pour in for Dhaka North City Corporation mayor Annisul Huq, who breathed his last at a London hospital on Thursday.

People from all walks of life are expressing shock at the death of once famous TV personality and business icon Annisul Huq.

Annisul, who had been undergoing treatment at a hospital in London, passed away there at 4:23pm (London time) Thursday at the age of 65.

President Abdul Hamid and prime minister Sheikh Hasina have expressed profound shock at the death of Dhaka North City Corporation mayor Annisul Huq.

In a condolence message on Thursday night, the president said, ‘The nation has lost an eminent businessman and a successful industrialist with the death of Annisul . . . His death is really an irreparable loss for the country.’

In a message of condolence, Sheikh Hasina said, ‘Annisul has made his place in the hearts of the common people through his public-welfare and service-oriented work.’

Through the death of this people-oriented mayor, the country and the nation have lost a devoted public representative, she said.

National Parliament speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury in a message expressed deep shock at the death of Annisul Huq. She recalled the contributions of Huq, saying he was a famous and successful businessman, industrialist and modern thinking person.

 

 

‘He had much attention towards development of Dhaka North City Corporation and people living in the area,’ the speaker said.

Deputy leader of the House Syeda Sajeda Chowdhury, leader of the opposition Raushon Ershad, LGRD and co-operatives minister Engineer Khandker Mosharraf Hossain, education minister Nurul Islam Nahid, law minister Anisul Huq, land minister Shamsur Rahman Sherif, state minister for land Saifuzzaman Chowdhury in separate messages expressed deep shock at the death of Annisul Huq.

Bangladesh Nationalist Party chairperson Khaleda Zia also expressed shock at the mayor’s death.

People from all walks of life prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed their deep sympathy to the bereaved family members.

Annisul was put on life support on Monday as his condition deteriorated. Later, doctors found infection in his lungs. Annisul was diagnosed with cerebral vasculitis at a London neurology hospital.

Doctors of the hospital removed the ventilation apparatus from his mouth at 4:23pm (London time), declaring him dead.

His body will reach Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport here on Saturday morning and later, he will be buried at Banani graveyard following a namaz-e-Janaza at Army Stadium after Asr prayers.
