Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Mayor Anisul Huq died in a London hospital on Thursday night, private satellite channel Ekattor TV reports quoting its London correspondent.

He breathed his last at Bangladesh time 10:30pm on Thursday night (4:30pm London time) at Wellington Hospital, family members confirmed the matter to the media.

President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina expressed their deep shock at Anisul’s demise.

Main opposition leader Rowshan Ershad, Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader and BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia also condoled Anisul Huq’s death.

Annisul was put on life support on Monday as his condition deteriorated. Later, doctors found infection in his lungs.

His first namaz-e-Janaza will be held at London’s Regent Park Mosque after Juma prayers on Friday and his body likely to arrive at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport around 11:30am on Saturday by a flight of Bangladesh Biman Airlines.

Later on the day, his second namz-e-janaza will be held at Army Stadium after Asr prayers and will be laid to rest at Banani grave yard in the capital.

Annisul Haque, also TV personality, had been suffering from neurological problem (dizziness and lack of balance) was diagnosed with cerebral vasculitis at a London neurology hospital. The mayor got admitted to the hospital on August 13.

Mayor Anisul Haque went to London in a personal visit on July 29.
