Travelling abroad and visiting different countries, I had always dreamt that Dhaka would be like these cities. I am sure I am not the only one wanting to see a well built and disciplined Dhaka city. Despite our combined desire, it has not been materialised because of the lack of initiative and strong leadership.
Previously, I had no idea which agency can build Dhaka the way we all dream. Then I came to know from my dad that city corporations play a vital role in doing so, though there are many impediments particularly in coordinations with other agencies like DWASA. Another tremendous shortcoming amongst us toward building a nice city is noncooperation and disobeying rules. We have rules, but we don’t obey. So it is crystal clear that we need someone who has the capability and personality to force us to abide by the rules.
Since last year, the steps into making our city better were taken by the mayor, Mr.Anisul Haque. The roads in our city started to improve. Haphazard parking was stopped. Mr.Mayor really had a vision for our country. A leader who has a dream and can visualise, is a good leader.
I had the opportunity to meet him once at a wedding. It was amazing to have taken a photograph with him. Probably that might be another reason for me to see his everyday’s development in Dhaka city. In fact it was the beginning of the journey but still far away to go.
Unfortunately, our mayor has been diagnosed with a rare neurological disease and is currently undergoing medical treatment in London. As he is away, I have noticed the stoppage of further development and the beginning of indisciplined car parking in the streets.
I really hope someone should come forward to take the steering and keep doing the incomplete job of our mayor till his return amongst us. At this crisis moment, we can only pray for our mayor and wish his total recovery.
