Mayor Annisul warns shop owners against hasty opening of DNCC Market

However, Shops Owners’ Association President SM Talal Rizvi has said the shops were opened with the mayor’s directive.

After Friday prayers, a special prayer was organised at the charred DNCC shopping complex after which Rizvi declared that some shops may resume operations immediately.

The popular shopping complex was burnt down in a powerful fire earlier this week.

Moments after some shops opened at the burnt complex, Dhaka North City Corporation Mayor Aninsul arrived for an inspection.

He said an inspection by an expert team to assess the safety of the surviving building would have been better before the shops were opened again.

He said owners would be responsible for any eventuality arising out of the hasty move.

Reacting to the Mayor’s statement, Rizvi said, “Mayors say many things.

“He is saying this to save his skin. He’ll eventually have to listen to what we say.”
