Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) mayor Annisul Huq has reiterated directions to remove illegal billboards, graffiti, banners and posters from the city.

Failure to comply voluntarily could invite action from a magistrate who would be deputed to remove them, he said. Mayor Annisul said this while addressing a media conference yesterday in the city. He said, “Those who have put up such illegal billboards should remove them voluntarily or we will send our magistrate to dismantle them.” The mayor said the city corporation’s clearance is mandatory for putting up billboards and banners in the city. However, with an eye on various political events, parties put up illegal displays in the form of banners and billboards, which stay on even after the events. A drive would be launched to remove the displays, the mayor said, requesting those who have erected them to remove these at their own behest.

Earlier on August 14, the High Court issued directives to remove illegal banners and other displays. The court had also asked the two city corporations to issue directives in this regard and implement its orders by August 22.
