At least 10 people suffered injuries in a clash between police and truck labours during an eviction of illegal establishments by Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) in the capital`s Tejgaon area. DNCC Mayor Anisul Haque has been blocked at the office in this time.

The injured labour was identified as Jasim, 40. He was rushed to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH).

According to reports, a team led by Dhaka North City Corporation Mayor Annisul Huq along with police and RAB officials reached the bus stand area on Sunday afternoon and some unruly people tried to prevent the move.

Later, the protester ignited tyres on the road to thwart the eviction drive. The transport workers also threw bricks towards the newsmen covering the situation.

The clash erupted around 2:00pm as a group of workers threw brickbats on the city corporation staff around 1:00pm. During the clash Jasimuddin, 40, a transport worker sustained injuries and he was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

The transport workers claimed he sustained bullet injuries but police denied firing any gunshot.

DMCH sources said Jasim had injuries in the face but they were not sure whether the wounds were caused by bullet or not.

A photo journalist of bdnews24.com, Tanvir Ahmed Sajib, was also injured during the clash. He was rushed to Samarita Hospital.

Talking to newsmen, mayor Annisul Huq said he would not bow down to any pressure and remove illegal occupants.
