Businessman and probable mayoral candidate from the ruling Awami League (AL) Atiqul Islam said he would prioritize completing the jobs left by former Dhaka North Mayor Annisul Huq. He said: “I will finish the task of the deceased mayor if I get elected.”
Islam came up with this declaration after submitting the nomination form at AL Dhanmondi office yesterday. AL deputy office secretary Barrister Biplab Barua received the nomination paper.
“Annis bhai uplifted Dhaka to a different level. His aspiration has made us ambitious about the city,” commented Islam. He further said that if the Awami League nominates him to run for the mayoral race, he would complete the unfulfilled job of Mayor Annis as soon as possible.

“I want to make a pledge that I would make Dhaka waterlogging and gridlock-free. I will try my best to make the capital as an eco-friendly city,” he concluded. Five including former BGMEA president collected their papers till Thursday noon.

AL local government selection board will finalize the candidate from the party. When the schedule was announced last year, AL picked Atiqul Islam while BNP nominated Tabith Mohammed Awal.
