A memorial discussion was organized by the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) at its auditorium in the city yesterday on occasion of first death anniversary of Dhaka North City Corporation mayor Annisul Huq. – AA

Annisul Huq was an enlightened personality and successful in business and cultural life, speakers have said. They were speaking at a memorial discussion on occasion of first death anniversary of Dhaka North City Corporation mayor Annisul Huq organized by the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) at its auditorium in the city yesterday.

They said, “Annisul Huq has illuminated the businessman in the country. He has established the respect for politics. He was successful as the mayor of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC).” FBCCI President Shafiul Islam Mohiuddin, ex-FBCCI President Mahbubur Rahman, Mir Nasir Hossain, AK Azad, Kazi Akram Uddin Ahmed, former Chief of Army Staff Abu Belal Mohammad Shafiul Huq and the India-Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry (IBCCI) Vice-President Shoeb Chowdhury were present at the function. Shafiul Islam Mohiuddin said Annisul will live in hearts of people for his works. He was a pioneering businessman. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasian and BNP chief Khaleda Zia both liked him.

Annisul, who had been undergoing treatment at a hospital in London, breathed his last there on November 30 at the age of 65. Later, He was laid to eternal rest at Banani graveyard on December 2 in 2017. Annisul Huq took oath as Dhaka North City Corporation Mayor on May 6, 2015. Annisul was born on 27 October 1952 at Sonapur village under Sonagazi upazila in Noakhali district. Moreover, Huq established his own business, Mohammadi Group in 1986.

He was the former president of several apex bodies including the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), Federation of the Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) and Independent Power Producers Association.
