DNCC Mayor bemoans lack of power to deal with city problems

Despite being the city father, Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Mayor Annisul Huq on Saturday bemoaned that he has no authority to deal with its 80 percent problems, reports UNB. “Some 80 percent of the problems are not under my purview to solve those. Traffic jam, water-logging, taking off billboards are not my issues. My jobs are officially to oversee the problems relating to parks, streetlights and waste management only,” he said.

Condolences pour in for Annisul Huq

Tributes still pour in for Dhaka North City Corporation Mayor Annisul Huq, who breathed his last at a London hospital around 4.23 pm (London time) Thursday. He was 65. President M Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina expressed deep shock at the death of Huq. In separate messages, the president and the prime minister recalled Annisul Huq's contributions to the development of Dhaka North City Corporation area.

The mayor post of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) was declared vacant on Monday four days after its first mayor Annisul Huq passed away. "The mayor post of the DNCC was announced vacant on Sunday (December 3). The gazette notification will be issued on that date," Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Engineer Khandker Mosharraf Hossain told journalists at the Secretariat in Dhaka today, reports BSS.
