Cover all open manholes, sewerage lines: HC
The High Court today directed the authorities concerned to properly fix the covers of manholes and sewerage lines in Dhaka within 15 days. It asked the mayors of Dhaka North and South City Corporations and the managing director of Dhaka Water Supply and Sewerage Authority (Wasa) to submit a report after complying with the order on October 13.
Karwan Bazar fire: Probe report in 2 weeks
The fire service yesterday started a probe into the Karwan Bazar fire that gutted 186 shops on May Day. Jahurul Amin, deputy director (operations) of Bangladesh Fire Service and Civil Defence, leads the five-member committee, said Brig Gen Ali Ahmed Khan, director general of the fire service.
Bring Wasa, Rajuk under DCCs
Mayor Annisul Huq wants Rajuk and Wasa under the jurisdiction of the city corporations to get rid of the city's water logging problem. The mayor can do nothing to address the water logging as Wasa digs canals and maintains storm-water drainage system, the Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) mayor said yesterday at a programme organised by Bangladesh University.
