Bringing Wasa, Rajuk under City Corporations
Policymakers would do well to pay heed to the call of the DNCC mayor to bring Rajuk and Wasa under the jurisdiction of the city corporations in order to tackle the city's worsening waterlogging problem. The mayor's demand has strong rationale as the city corporations have no control over departments such as Wasa, Rajuk, Police and other service providers in the capital.
‘Muscle power won’t work’
Dhaka North City Corporation Mayor Annisul Huq said he would not back off from his stance on making the city roads available for traffic and pedestrians. "I am telling you this mayor will be very tough in future and showing muscle power won't work. There will be no compromise," he said after an eviction drive led by him at the capital's Tejgaon Truck Terminal yesterday turned into a clash between police and transport workers resisting it.
Eviction drive sparks clash
Several hundred transport workers went berserk and fought pitched battles with police during an eviction drive against illegal structures at the capital's Tejgaon Truck Terminal yesterday. This happened when Dhaka North City Corporation Mayor Annisul Huq himself was leading the drive, which began around 1:00pm.
Free of illegal truck parking, Tejgaon road looks fresh

DNCC mayor for coordinated body to solve city problems
Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Mayor Annisul Huq today observed that a coordinated management is necessary to resolve the problems of Dhaka city. Addressing a ‘Meet the Reports’ at the Dhaka Reporters’ Unity (DRU), the mayor also said the city corporation alone could not solve all the problems.

প্রথম দিন অফিস করলেন ঢাকা উত্তর সিটি করপোরেশনের (ডিএনসিসি) নবনির্বাচিত মেয়র আনিসুল হক। গতকাল রোববার বেলা ৩টার দিকে তিনি গুলশানের নগর ভবনে যান। পরে তিনি কর্মকর্তাদের নিয়ে বৈঠক করেন। এ সময় তিনি বলেন, নির্বাচনের আগে নগরবাসীকে যে ওয়াদাগুলো দিয়েছিলেন, তা যাতে তিনি পূরণ করতে পারেন, সেভাবে সবাইকে কাজ করতে হবে।
বনানীতে আনিসুল হকের বাসায় প্রধানমন্ত্রী
ঢাকা উত্তর সিটি করপোরেশনের (ডিএনসিসি) প্রয়াত মেয়র আনিসুল হকের বনানীর বাসায় গেছেন প্রধানমন্ত্রী শেখ হাসিনা। শনিবার দুপুর ১টা ৫২ মিনিটে তিনি মেয়রের বাসায় যান। সেখানে প্রধানমন্ত্রী শোক সন্তপ্ত পরিবারের সদস্যদের সান্ত্বনা দেন। এ সময় আনিসুল হকের বিদেহী আত্মার মাগফিরাত কামনা করে মোনাজাতও করেন শেখ হাসিনা।
অফুরান অনুপ্রেরণা হয়ে হৃদয়েই আছেন
'আমার এখনও ভাবতে কষ্ট হয়, চার বছর হয়ে গেছে আনিস আমাদের চোখের আড়াল হয়ে গেছেন! তবে চোখের আড়াল হওয়া মানেই মনের আড়াল হওয়া নয়। তাকে আমরা প্রত্যেকে, পরিবারের সবাই আমাদের চিন্তা-চেতনায়, আমাদের আদর্শে ধারণ করি। তিনি চলে গেছেন, কাল (আজ মঙ্গলবার) চার বছর পূর্ণ হবে। কিন্তু এখনও তিনি আমাদের সবার সঙ্গে আষ্টেপৃষ্ঠে বেঁধে আছেন।'
দুর্নীতিবাজ কর্মকর্তাদের সতর্ক করলেন আনিসুল হক
দুর্নীতি বিষয়ে ঢাকা উত্তর সিটি করপোরেশনের (ডিএনসিসি) কর্মকর্তা-কর্মচারীদের সতর্ক করেছেন মেয়র আনিসুল হক। দুর্নীতিবাজ কর্মকর্তাদের উদ্দেশ্যে তিনি বলেন,'সাবধান! দুর্নীতি করে চাকরি হারাবেন না। আমি চাকরি খাইলে শেখ হাসিনা ছাড়া কেউ ফেরত দিতে পারবে না। ভালো হয়ে যান। না হয় তিন বছর পর দুর্নীতি দমন কমিশনে ঘুরতে হবে।'
